Julian brings his passion for running and footwear full circle and back to Geelong – where he originally learned the technical components of running footwear and developed a love for customer service – after several years establishing The Running Company in Ballarat. Julian is an elite marathon runner who represented Australia at the World Athletics Championships in Doha in 2019. Julian owns The Running Company Geelong with his partner Bri, has his own online coaching business- Run Strong Online Coaching, is a race director, and a co-host of the Inside Running Podcast.
Julian began running in 2009 using the reverse progression method of beginning with a marathon (Portland 3 Bays Marathon in 3:04). The next few years were then riddled with injury until managing to string some consistency around 2017 when he ran the Berlin Marathon in 2:18. Since then his marathon PR has progressed to 2:14 (Lake Biwa, 2019).
Favourite Run?
A long run around the groomed trails and lakes of St Moritz in Switzerland. It is the runners paradise.
Best Running Moment?
Running 2:18 in the Berlin Marathon in 2017 made all the injuries and poor races of the past 10 years seem worthwhile.
What do you love about running?
It’s a simple sport. Nobody can do it for you so it’s up to you to put the work in and that enhances the feeling when it pays off.
